Description
Work on the project is being carried out within the framework of the Federal Space Program of
Russia. The general contractor for the scientific payload is RAS IKI. In addition to Russian organizations,
scientists and specialists from Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Poland, Slovakia, the USA, the Czech
Republic, Ukraine, Finland and France take part in the project.
The Earth's magnetosphere is a natural resonator for many types of electromagnetic waves. In particular, these are low-frequency geomagnetic pulsations with a wavelength on the order of the size of the magnetosphere itself, as well as waves of higher frequency, which are characterized by wave propagation at a small angle to the magnetic field.
Studies of the self-consistent theory of radiation belts led to the concept of a magnetospheric maser, in
which magnetic force tubes filled with background plasma serve as a resonator for waves, and the
energetic component is an active substance,
